Description: BACKGROUNDIt is widely recognized that Malaysia attained universal health coverage (UHC) in the 1980s through supply-side investments prioritizing health infrastructure in rural areas and maternal and child health services. However, there is a need to take additional actions against the country-s demographic and epidemiological transitions, including the increasing burden of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs). The rising proportion of the population aged 65 years or older in Malaysia is expected to reach 14.5% in 2040 from 7.2% in 2020. The National Health and Morbidity Survey (NHMS) 2019 revealed that the prevalence of known diabetes and hypertension was 9.4% and 15.9%, respectively, which showed increasing trends over time.
